Iemura Seminar Exhibition 2026: Placing Sawako Nasu’s Paintings in Space, Using Only Natural Light will be held at the Art-Theque Gallery, Tama Art University Hachioji Campus.
Organized by Professor Tamayo Iemura's Exhibition Design Seminar in the Department of Arts Studies at Tama Art University, the Iemura Seminar Exhibition is an annual exhibition project developed over the course of a year through close collaboration between invited artists and students. Since its inception in 2017, the project has emphasized not only the finished exhibition itself, but also the process of experimentation, dialogue, and trial and error involved in its creation. This year's edition marks the tenth installment of the series.
In recent years, the seminar has presented a series of exhibitions exploring the relationship between artworks and exhibition space using only natural light, allowing changes in daylight and weather to shape the viewing experience.
For this exhibition, approximately twelve new paintings by Sawako Nasu will be presented alongside a spatial intervention incorporating plywood panels proposed by the artist herself, introducing a new development to the ongoing series. The subtle layers of color in Nasu's paintings and the ways they shift and resonate throughout the space under changing natural light form one of the exhibition's central highlights.
Two talk sessions will also be held during the exhibition.
